Over 700 public and private sector individuals participated in establishing the Standards and Procedures of this rigid certification review.  The goal of the certification program is to streamline the certification process and increase the ability of women business owners to compete for contracts at a national level.

“Certification provides a marketing opportunity for women business enterprises to participate in outreach programs,” says Julie Tappero, President of West Sound Workforce.  “In addition, this program will enable us to develop relationships with larger companies and create opportunities for future partnerships with them and public and private companies.”

“NWBOC seeks to increase the ability of women business owners to compete for corporate and government contracts,” says Janet Harris-Lange, President of NWBOC.

NWBOC, a national 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation, was created in response to needs identified by the Procurement Special Interest Group of the National Association of Women Business Owners.  NWBOC seeks to provide more corporations with the opportunity to better their procurement practices and to women suppliers the opportunity to compete.

That’s why every year we have a Doggie Howliday – it’s a special day where our employees get to bring their dogs to work with them.  And it’s our favorite day of the year!

(Note:  We are not trying to discriminate against cats.  It’s just that they don’t respond well to being on leashes, and, more importantly, they fail to provide us with the opportunity to create a pun as completely awesome as “howliday”.  Like it or not, “meowliday” just doesn’t have the same satisfying ring to it.)

Sunny Kobe Cook to speak at first meeting!

The Alliance of Women Owned Businesses will be holding its first meeting on April 14th at 4pm, at the Best Western Wesley Inn in Gig Harbor.

We’re thrilled to announce that the first guest speaker will be Sunny Kobe Cook, founder of Sleep Country USA, and an amazing businesswoman!

According to her supervisor:

Melanie has been working with us as an Administrative Assistant for two months now.  She has proven to be indispensable!  Her spirit of volunteerism, and high energy and drive have quickly made her a valued member of our team.

Melanie is a fast learner, and sets high expectations for herself that translate to excellent performance, and outcomes of the tasks and goals we all ask of her.  Melanie has moved into a demanding role, reporting to two different supervisors, and she is at the beck and call of many of the other staff.
